"The Stitcher"
Em’s sensational all-female band, Tall Dark Whimsy, just released their 4th single. Listen to “The Stitcher” on Bandcamp and watch the official video on YouTube! This single will be available on streaming services on October 29th, 2021. Em, joined by Alexis (Bass) and Shannon (Drums) have been hard at work preparing this special tune for your ears.
“I wrote this tune about a flamboyant and eccentric seamstress who insists she can outfit the entire ballet in a week. She’s pushy, she’s a dreamer, she’s a DYIer and she’s a giver. She’s you and she’s me, and this is her anthem! This song is for all of the self-made success stories out there. Keep going, lean on the support of your friends, and there’s nothing you cannot accomplish. I almost didn’t bother showing this song to my band, because I didn’t think it had a strong enough chorus. I dug in, spent some time on it and created what I’m proud to say is one of my catchier tunes. It deserved the hard work and time.” ~Em on writing “The Stitcher”
The band began playing “The Stitcher” to audiences back in 2019 when they formed. Shannon (drummer) recorded with Greenlight Studios. Em recorded the more dynamic chorus parts with Luke Neil at Track 11 Studios in Portland, spending some time on refining the lyrics. After over a year of deliberating when to release “The Stitcher”, Em continued working to find that perfect guitar tone, tracking bass with Alexis, and searching for just the right engineer to bring the track together. She enlisted the magic of the amazing Eddi Pickard of Navier Gene, and turned what was once a half-written punk song, into a banger.
Focused mainly on safety during uncertain and scary pandemic times, the band decided to foil their original plan of filming a house party’esque video, and ended up limiting the cast to just a few members. Following Director Nathan Trang’s ingenius lead, they used the conditions of the times to draw from, playfully acting out what life is like in “The Whimsy House”. Extras for the music video included close friends and family of bass player Alexis. Among the cast was talented guitarist, Andrew Moore (Alexis’s brother), and Matt Stoops: cinematic composer-producer, metal guitarist, and Em’s partner of nearly a decade.
